Dental Crowns in the Chicago Loop

A high-tech and integrative CHOICE

Dental crowns designed for your health

Our teeth are precious structures, that occasionally need to be reinforced.

Remember what our teeth do for us: constant chewing both hard and soft foods, drenched in liquids both hot and cold, expanding and contracting, bacteria occasionally treated to sugars you might eat. It shouldn’t surprise us that after years and years of doing so much for you, your teeth need to be refurbished and made strong again.

Don’t feel like you did something wrong if you need a crown. We feel lucky to have this option to save your tooth.

Crowns are needed for a variety of reasons. For example, a chipped or fractured tooth will need a crown, root-canaled teeth need crowns, crowns complete the implant process, and often it’s your best option if you have a cavity around an old silver filling. It is our job to help you understand why you need a crown.

Do you even need a crown? Your natural teeth are precious, so we start by reviewing the pros and cons of a less invasive procedure that will save your natural tooth. But, if a crown is indicated, our integrative dentists can help you make the best choice for your health.

This is the future of restorative dentistry — and it’s happening right now at Choices in Dentistry. Call (312) 368-8771 to schedule an appointment.

Ozone for health and wellness

Often traditional dentists apply chemicals to your tooth before cementing. They have good intentions, to desensitize your tooth, but many of these agents contain formaldehyde! Something that should never be put in your mouth. Many traditional dentists think this small amount is harmless — watch out!

Instead, we irrigate with our ozone gas to desensitize the tooth and naturally create the perfect bio-environment. At Choices in Dentistry, we use all-natural ozone therapy to balance the bacterial biofilm and protect your immune system.

But which crown?

The crown itself often helps your natural tooth last years longer by providing strength. It is important that the foundation we build your crown on is healthy and worthy of your investment.

Is material safety your priority? We might want a biocompatibility test to determine the best material for your body.

Function your first concern? Full zirconia crowns hold up to grinding and new technology makes these some of the best-fitting crowns available. Do you grind your teeth and cosmetics are not your priority? Consider gold — it continues to be the most biocompatible material, but cosmetics makes it a less common choice.

Front teeth need crowns, too! Custom pressed porcelain is best and if needed, we’ll get it to match perfectly with custom shading at our lab. We love it when a patient holds a mirror and has to ask which tooth we put a crown on. It matches so well they can’t spot the crown!.

Are you considering improving your smile? Veneers or crowns are sometimes your best option. We specialize in making your teeth look completely natural, not an ear-to-ear-Hollywood-opaque-all-one-color smile.

Your crown’s success relies on teamwork between a dentist, lab tech, and you. It should seal the tooth seamlessly, it should not trap food between our teeth, it should be shaped for retention, feel comfortable when you chew and made of the best material for your needs and body type. It is our job to give you a well-made crown, it is your job is to clean it!

Our process for creating a crown:

  1. We’ll prepare the tooth to create a stable foundation
  2. We’ll take an impression.
  3. A temporary crown will be placed on your tooth
  4. When your crown is finished you’ll return for a final fitting and adjustments.
  5. If cosmetics need to be perfected, you might go directly to our lab for custom shading.

Our integrative approach to tooth crowns and systemic health

When a tooth is lost it sets off a ripple of lifelong health effects like a stone tossed into a calm lake. A lost tooth can lead to a misaligned bite, chronic headaches, sunken facial appearance, and gum disease.

Placing a well-made crown will minimize these lifelong health risks. Add our ozone gas to reduce anaerobic pathogens, and we’ve created a crown to restore the strength your mouth needs for healthy function. Remember, the mouth is the first step in our digestive system — your teeth need to function at their best to give you digestive system a headstart to optimal overall health.

During your appointment, we’ll encourage you to ask questions like:

  • Why do I need a crown and are there any other options?
  • What is the root cause of the issue — my diet or genetics?
  • Is nickel in my old crown causing my teeth and gums to bleed?
